Аннотация: Приводятся новые аргументы в пользу того, что песни Сапфо являются важным историческим источником по архаической религии античного Лесбоса. Впервые в антиковедческой науке проведен сопоставительный анализ данных археологии, эпиграфики, и литературной традиции о мистериях Артемиды в античной Митилене. Используются методы литературоведческого и филологического анализа текста, сравнительно-исторический метод. Делается вывод о связи некоторых фрагментов поэзии Сапфо (Sapph. Fr. 44a, Sapph. Fr. 99 a-b) с архаическим эротическим ритуалом мистерий Артемиды. Этот ритуал является пережитком инициации и считался необходимым жертвоприношением Артемиде, чтобы она позволила младенцу родиться живым. Подобные ритуалы в качестве предсвадебного жертвоприношения для Артемиды засвидетельствованы эпиграфикой и литературной традицией в Спарте и Кирене IV в. до н. э. Именно в связи с такими ритуалами мистерии Артемиды в Митилене также назывались Мистериями Душительницы [IG XII, pars II, № 484, 11-12].
